Emdag has been collaborating with Open Development & Education (ODE) in 2019 and have executed a successful number of projects together. Björn leads the ODE team and is an associate member of the Research for Equitable Access to Learning (University of Cambridge) with research publications spanning 20 years. He has conducted a wide range of evaluations and reports, including evaluations for the Digital Impact Alliance on the Principles for Digital Development, focusing on support for donors, including governmental and non-governmental donors and ministries, on digital development policies. He specializes in all aspects of education (primary to tertiary, as well as professional education.
With over 15 years’ experience in designing, managing and delivering complex research and development programmes in low-income countries, Björn uses participatory and agile processes to develop and lead collaborations. He has been a technical advisor for projects funded by the Queen Rania Foundation (Jordan), FHNW Fachhochschule Nordwestschweiz (Zimbabwe), and the Roger Federer Foundation (Interactive Teaching Programme for Community Schools) focusing on the development and implementation of in-service professional development programmes for teachers in primary and secondary schools. Programmes are delivered through a variety of means including numerous forms of ICT. These programmes focus on raising learning outcomes within the curriculum and strategically utilising technology to supplement school-based teacher development, the largest of which has reached 30,000 teachers in community schools in Zambia.
Björn has supervised PhD/MSc students’ work on OLPC, MOOCs and TPD, and initiated the Faculty of Education open resources site (http://oer.educ.cam.ac.uk/wiki/OERGS). He has long-standing connections with partners and colleagues globally.
